A 27-hole links laid out on a peninsula 10 miles north of Dublin, Portmarnock opened as a nine-hole course in 1894 and was extended to a full championship layout by 1896. It has hosted major events including the 1960 Canada Cup, the 1991 Walker Cup and nineteen stagings of the Irish Open, and is consistently rated one of Ireland's very best courses.
