Melbourne Sandbelt

Founded in 1891, Royal Melbourne is a 36-hole club widely regarded as one of the finest golf venues in the world, anchoring the celebrated Melbourne Sandbelt. The West Course, designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie and club member Alex Russell and opened in 1931, is the club's championship layout — famous for its firm, fast sandbelt turf, generous but strategically bunkered fairways, and greens that reward precise approach play. Russell's companion East Course opened a year later. A private club, Royal Melbourne extends visitor tee times to international and interstate visitors who hold membership at a recognised golf club, subject to availability on designated days.
