Founded by surgeon Laidlaw Purves in 1887 amid wild Kent duneland, Royal St George's was the first club outside Scotland to host The Open Championship. The course is a classic, heavily bunkered links known for its blind shots, deep pot bunkers and demanding wind conditions, and remains one of the sternest tests on the Open rota.
