Despite its name, the New Course is over 125 years old — laid out by Old Tom Morris in 1895 to relieve pressure on the Old Course, which was already the busiest links in Scotland. It sits alongside the Old Course on the same stretch of linksland and is regarded by many members and regulars as a tougher, more penal test than its famous neighbour, with tighter fairways and no double greens.
